2026 International New Energy Expo Opens in Changzhou

CHANGZHOU, China, Sept. 30, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 2026 International New Energy Expo opened in Changzhou on September 29, under the theme "Power for an Infinite Future", focusing on six areas - new trends, technologies, products, applications, scenarios and opportunities. The expo showcased Changzhou's strengths in the new energy industry.

Li Baiping, Secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, said the city is home to more than 3,400 new energy companies, forming an ecosystem that spans power generation, storage, transmission, consumption and grid services. In 2025, Changzhou produced more than 800,000 new energy vehicles. Invoiced sales of power batteries exceeded RMB 220 billion, while those of new energy enterprises above designated size topped RMB 1 trillion. The city will expand demonstration projects and applications through four national pilot initiatives covering carbon peaking, a new power system, vehicle-grid interaction and zero-carbon industrial parks.

Chen Liquan and Fan Weicheng, members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, spoke on widespread electrification and industrial safety, respectively. Konstantin S. Novoselov, a 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics laureate and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, discussed the potential of graphene and artificial intelligence in energy research. The expo also featured CATL's sodium-ion technology for energy storage, progress on dry electrodes for solid-state batteries, a large AI model for energy and a non-destructive battery testing laboratory.

Products on display included Li Auto's Range Extender 3.0, electric vessels and solid-state transformers, alongside 52 smart devices made in Changzhou. The expo also unveiled a chief dual-carbon officer system for enterprises and the "Zero-Carbon Changzhou: Pilot Initiatives Leading the Way" initiative. Agreements on artificial intelligence and smart shipping were signed, and several innovation platforms were inaugurated. A package covering ten sectors, 100 application scenarios and large-scale investment opportunities was released to a global audience.

Over the next three years, Changzhou will have 448 new energy industrial projects under construction, with total investment of RMB 228.7 billion. By 2030, the city aims to grow its new energy industry to RMB 1.2 trillion and produce more than one million vehicles annually.
